Will Banning Fast Food Locations Near Schools Fight Childhood Obesity?

New York limits the amount of sugary drinks you can consume, and many schools have taken vending machines out of their schools entirely.

Is banning fast food locations near schools, parks, etc. going to help fight childhood obesity?

The Austin Texas City Council has denited what's called a "healthy food ordinance" during its Thursday meeting. It would have restricted the type of restaurants that are built around areas frequented by children, such as schools, to encourage healthier eating habits.

In a four to three vote, the council denied the proposal. It came from the recently completed Community Health Improvement Plan. It identifies and makes suggestions on how to improve the health of Austin's citizens.

The healthy food ordinance drew a lot of attention from critics who said it would allow government to get too involved in personal choices like what we feed our children.
Council member Laura Morrison says this measure is bigger than that, and that we need to look at the big picture.

"That's what this is all about is how do we raise the standards? How do we put systemic issues into place so that the overall health of our community can be improved?" said Morrison.

Increase Your Bust Size AND Bring Your Wine With You!

 Anything's possible.

Case in point: The Wine Rack Flask Bra. Take a flat chest (or if you are well-endowed go BIGGER), combine a built-in flask with a mouth dispenser, and ad your favorite wine. Of course, it doesn't have to be wine, but things could get interesting real fast if you fill this bra with hard liquor.

Scorpions "Unplugged" Video Preview!

Since I started listening to rock music back in the day, I've always enjoyed listening to the Scorpions. They weren't one of my favorite groups necessarily, but always had solid tracks and vocals that can't be replicated.

Recently the Scorpions released a video preview and a movie trailer of their upcoming release of "MTV Unplugged- Scorpions Live In Athens."

It's due November 29 in Europe (of course they get it earlier) and January 21, 2014 in North America. The package features a mix of classic Scorpions tracks and new songs performed acoustically.

The session took place In September, when the German rockers performed three MTV Unplugged concerts in Athens, Greece at the city's Lycabettus Theatre. "MTV Unplugged- Scorpions Live In Athens" will be available on CD, DVD and Blu-ray disc.

20 Companies With The Best Perks

I'm going to be honest, radio has some of the best perks you can get with a job! Concerts, events, goods, meals, etc.

What kind of perks do you get at YOUR job?

Here is a list of the top twenty perks at companies, with MN's own General Mills landing at number 6.

1. Pinterest

Office perks: Pinterest hacks are notoriously hit or miss, but the company holds regular Hackathons, where employees choose a creative idea and work together to make it happen. And in lieu of hacks, there's a weekly happy hour where employees get to ask questions to the founders of Pinterest.

2. SC Johnson

Office perks: An on-site concierge is available to mail your packages, send flowers, deliver groceries to your house, and get the oil in your car changed. Other cool perk? Whenever you retire, you're rewarded with a lifetime membership to the company fitness center.

3. Mars (food manufacturer)

Office perks: If you work at Mars Chocolate (brands like Snickers and Twix) or Wrigley (brands like Skittles and Starburst) you get FREE CANDY! (All the pink Starbursts your heart desires.) And if you work for any of their pet divisions, then bringing your furry friend to the office is encouraged.

4. ThousandEyes (an IT performance management company)

Office perks: Sustenance is key for the ThousandEyes employees. Which means lunch is free and catered every day, and if you're working late, dinner gets comped. Did I mention that the office has an intense espresso machine, and employees get free Espresso 101 classes, like "Latte Art."

5. Google

Office perks: On site doctors and medical services to keep employees healthy without the awfulness of waiting rooms. Free lunch, dinner, massages, yoga, and car washes are also part of the package.

6. General Mills (in Minnesota!)

Office perks: Flexibility is the name of the Mills game. When you start at the company, you automatically get three weeks of paid vacation a year, and that increases the longer you work there. Plus, they have flexible work arrangements and encourage telecommuting and/or working part-time when it helps your schedule.

Things You Do Online That Would Be Creepy In Real Life

SO here we are in 2013 where social media makes it so that many of us can do a lot of things online that we might not necessarily do in real life. You would totally be a creeper if you carried over some of those online habits into your daily life in the "real world."

Blake Shelton's Mom Has A New Holiday Novel

Well now this could be a good read..

Blake Shelton's mom, Dorothy Shackleford, has a new holiday novel out based "Time For Me To Come Home" which was a song on Blake's Christmas album. The story is about a popular country singer (Heath Sawyer not Blake) who travels home to Oklahoma on Christmas Eve following a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden.

The novel also includes some holiday memories from Blake and his mom.

On This Day In 1971 Led Zeppelin IV Hits Stores

On this day in 1971 - Led Zeppelin IV lands in stores..

The much-anticipated record had been delayed due to problems with the final mixing and cover artwork, which doesn't feature a title or the band's name – just some bizarre runic symbols. Robert Plant said, "The hierarchy of the record business aren't into the fact that covers are important to a band's image. We just said they couldn't have the master tapes until they got the cover right." As for what's inside, Rolling Stone's Lenny Kaye decides, "If this thing with the semi-metaphysical title isn't quite their best to date, it certainly comes off as their most consistently good."

Here they are performing "Stairway To Heaven" live in 1973-

What's With All These New Sea Creatures?

Yet ANOTHER funky fish has been discovered, this one in the South China Sea near Malaysia. Although not as big as some of the recent sea creatures to wash ashore, this one definitely is the most interesting looking!

The mystery creature has a large head and is covered with sharp spines on the top and bottom of its body, which gets progressively smaller towards the tail. The fish measuring over one foot in length also has two tusk-like spikes near its mouth. The strange catch has left locals baffled as to what it could be.

Sapar Mansor, 43, from Taman Ceria, Permyjaya, caught the strange creature in the South China Sea near Tudan, Malaysia.

"This is the first time in my life that I have seen this type of fish. I brought it home to my wife and informed her of the rare catch," he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Sapar said he and a friend went out in a fishing boat and traveled two hours from Miri River to the sea.
They started fishing around 5am but after around an hour at the location many miles from Miri, he landed his surprising catch.

Two Planes Collide In Mid-Air And Everyone Survives!

This accident had about as good an ending as you could get. As a guy that's jumped out of perfectly good airplanes myself, I can imagine the adrenaline running through the bodies of jumpers when this happened!

Two planes, each carrying skydivers, collided in Wisconsin 12,000 feet up, sending the skydivers in the air rushing to jump and avoid injury.

One plane fell to the ground, while the pilot of the second aircraft managed to land it, even though it was damaged during the collision. He is the only one who suffered an injury and had escaped by pulling the emergency cord on his chute.

Denver Nuggets Mascot Passes Out

What otherwise would have been a very energetic "Rocky the Mountain Lion" being lowered onto the court at the Denver Nuggets game on Friday turned out to be quite the opposite.

He passed out while being lowered and instead of wild flailing arms and a burst of excitement, fans saw a lifeless lion hanging from his harness.

The good news is Rocky was able to walk of the court on his owner shortly thereafter. Kind of a freaky scene nonetheless!
