Metallica Play Special Show In Antarctica!

In perhaps the most unique setting for the boys, Metallica played a special Coca-Cola promotional show in Antarctica on Sunday.

"This was the most unique show Metallica has ever done," posted the group. "The band, contest winners, research station scientists (from Russia, South Korea, China, Poland, Chile, Brazil and Germany), and the ship crew, all crammed in this little dome out on the helipad of Carlini Station in Antarctica! The energy in the little dome was amazing! Words cannot describe how happy everyone was."

Metallica's dome performance was transmitted to the audience via headphones with no amplification.

The Coca-Cola Zero contest was open to fans from several Latin and South American countries.

Carrie Underwood Just Doesn't Get A Break

A three-hour live television special. Doing it without any mistakes is a pretty good achievement as it is, let alone having an outstanding night singing and acting all together!

"The Sound of Music Live" aired last night and I will say this, Carrie Underwood did a great job belting out the music. Her acting on the other hand? Well, how much has she really done in that category? Not a lot, but she wasn't that bad.

As if getting hate mail about playing the part of Maria Von Trapp isn't enough, now Underwood is hearing the displeasure from the real-life Von Trapp family.

Von Trapp Derbshire told ABC News he doesn't understand why anyone would try to remake this classic film, his biggest problem is the casting of Grammy-winner Carrie Underwood for tonight's NBC special.
"It's just upsetting that this could potentially be the final broadcast of our story," he said. "And although her
voice is amazing, she doesn't have acting experience.... It's just the overall image, she's a country star, she
won "American Idol", she's very public in kind of tabloid way. "

By the way, the family preferred that Anne Hathaway play the part of Maria over Carrie.

How does that grab ya?

Luke Bryan Plays Backstage For Minnesota Girl With Cancer

Luke Bryan was one of the many great artists with great performances at the CMA Country Christmas special on Monday, but what he did behind the stage was even more impressive. Bryan met with Tatum Libbesmeier, a little girl from Minnesota, and performed a private concert for her before the big show. Tatum has cancer and her Make-a-Wish dream was to meet her favorite country star, Luke Bryan. Tatum, who is only 8, sang along with Luke when he performed "Crash My Party" backstage. The star also incorporated her name into the lyrics of the song! Bryan also showed Tatum pics of his own kids, since Tatum and his son Tate have the same nickname. Tatum got to select a dress from Macy’s and attend the taping of the special. She also introduced Bryan along with host Jennifer Nettles. After performing "Run Run Rudolph," Bryan came down into the crowd to high-five and hug Tatum and her family. Good luck on your fight with cancer Tatum!

Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder Shaves Guys Dreads Off On Stage!

This is awesome! Per request of a fan at a recent Pearl Jam show, frontman Eddie Vedder shaves the dreads off this dudes head! Vedder had noticed a fan sporting a sign that said he'd shave his head if the band would play "Brain Of J", the opening track to their 1998 album, "Yield." Eddie then brought the man on stage, who told him he wanted to headbang with the dreads one last time and, after a quick talk, Pearl Jam agreed and played the tune with the fan headbanging throughout it. That's many years of hair there, probably pretty nasty too. Actually, it looks like the guy was way passed due for a haircut.

Guy Throws $1000 Dollars Over The Balcony At MOA!

Tis the season to be merry!

Bloomington police cited a 29-year-old man for disorderly conduct for tossing 1,000 dollar bills over an upper floor railing at the Mall of America.
Serge Vorobyov, of Apple Valley, admitted throwing the money Friday as a choir performed "Let it Snow." He was cited and released at the scene. Vorobyov said he also was ordered not to go into the mall for a year.

He said he's going through a divorce and lost his car-hauling business and hoped the positivity of throwing the money would come back to him. He argues he was just spreading holiday cheer.

"I wanted to do some sort of pay-it-forward kind of thing," he said Sunday.

He invited his estranged wife to try to win her back but she didn't show up, he said.

Vorobyov said he started tossing his "last $1,000" from the fourth floor and continued while going down the escalator.

He had stamped the bills with his YouTube address, and on his Facebook page he called the event a publicity stunt. When asked why he wanted the publicity, he said he wanted his cat back from his estranged wife.

Will Banning Fast Food Locations Near Schools Fight Childhood Obesity?

New York limits the amount of sugary drinks you can consume, and many schools have taken vending machines out of their schools entirely.

Is banning fast food locations near schools, parks, etc. going to help fight childhood obesity?

The Austin Texas City Council has denited what's called a "healthy food ordinance" during its Thursday meeting. It would have restricted the type of restaurants that are built around areas frequented by children, such as schools, to encourage healthier eating habits.

In a four to three vote, the council denied the proposal. It came from the recently completed Community Health Improvement Plan. It identifies and makes suggestions on how to improve the health of Austin's citizens.

The healthy food ordinance drew a lot of attention from critics who said it would allow government to get too involved in personal choices like what we feed our children.
Council member Laura Morrison says this measure is bigger than that, and that we need to look at the big picture.

"That's what this is all about is how do we raise the standards? How do we put systemic issues into place so that the overall health of our community can be improved?" said Morrison.

Scorpions "Unplugged" Video Preview!

Since I started listening to rock music back in the day, I've always enjoyed listening to the Scorpions. They weren't one of my favorite groups necessarily, but always had solid tracks and vocals that can't be replicated.

Recently the Scorpions released a video preview and a movie trailer of their upcoming release of "MTV Unplugged- Scorpions Live In Athens."

It's due November 29 in Europe (of course they get it earlier) and January 21, 2014 in North America. The package features a mix of classic Scorpions tracks and new songs performed acoustically.

The session took place In September, when the German rockers performed three MTV Unplugged concerts in Athens, Greece at the city's Lycabettus Theatre. "MTV Unplugged- Scorpions Live In Athens" will be available on CD, DVD and Blu-ray disc.

20 Companies With The Best Perks

I'm going to be honest, radio has some of the best perks you can get with a job! Concerts, events, goods, meals, etc.

What kind of perks do you get at YOUR job?

Here is a list of the top twenty perks at companies, with MN's own General Mills landing at number 6.

1. Pinterest

Office perks: Pinterest hacks are notoriously hit or miss, but the company holds regular Hackathons, where employees choose a creative idea and work together to make it happen. And in lieu of hacks, there's a weekly happy hour where employees get to ask questions to the founders of Pinterest.

2. SC Johnson

Office perks: An on-site concierge is available to mail your packages, send flowers, deliver groceries to your house, and get the oil in your car changed. Other cool perk? Whenever you retire, you're rewarded with a lifetime membership to the company fitness center.

3. Mars (food manufacturer)

Office perks: If you work at Mars Chocolate (brands like Snickers and Twix) or Wrigley (brands like Skittles and Starburst) you get FREE CANDY! (All the pink Starbursts your heart desires.) And if you work for any of their pet divisions, then bringing your furry friend to the office is encouraged.

4. ThousandEyes (an IT performance management company)

Office perks: Sustenance is key for the ThousandEyes employees. Which means lunch is free and catered every day, and if you're working late, dinner gets comped. Did I mention that the office has an intense espresso machine, and employees get free Espresso 101 classes, like "Latte Art."

5. Google

Office perks: On site doctors and medical services to keep employees healthy without the awfulness of waiting rooms. Free lunch, dinner, massages, yoga, and car washes are also part of the package.

6. General Mills (in Minnesota!)

Office perks: Flexibility is the name of the Mills game. When you start at the company, you automatically get three weeks of paid vacation a year, and that increases the longer you work there. Plus, they have flexible work arrangements and encourage telecommuting and/or working part-time when it helps your schedule.

Blake Shelton's Mom Has A New Holiday Novel

Well now this could be a good read..

Blake Shelton's mom, Dorothy Shackleford, has a new holiday novel out based "Time For Me To Come Home" which was a song on Blake's Christmas album. The story is about a popular country singer (Heath Sawyer not Blake) who travels home to Oklahoma on Christmas Eve following a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden.

The novel also includes some holiday memories from Blake and his mom.

On This Day In 1971 Led Zeppelin IV Hits Stores

On this day in 1971 - Led Zeppelin IV lands in stores..

The much-anticipated record had been delayed due to problems with the final mixing and cover artwork, which doesn't feature a title or the band's name – just some bizarre runic symbols. Robert Plant said, "The hierarchy of the record business aren't into the fact that covers are important to a band's image. We just said they couldn't have the master tapes until they got the cover right." As for what's inside, Rolling Stone's Lenny Kaye decides, "If this thing with the semi-metaphysical title isn't quite their best to date, it certainly comes off as their most consistently good."

Here they are performing "Stairway To Heaven" live in 1973-

What's With All These New Sea Creatures?

Yet ANOTHER funky fish has been discovered, this one in the South China Sea near Malaysia. Although not as big as some of the recent sea creatures to wash ashore, this one definitely is the most interesting looking!

The mystery creature has a large head and is covered with sharp spines on the top and bottom of its body, which gets progressively smaller towards the tail. The fish measuring over one foot in length also has two tusk-like spikes near its mouth. The strange catch has left locals baffled as to what it could be.

Sapar Mansor, 43, from Taman Ceria, Permyjaya, caught the strange creature in the South China Sea near Tudan, Malaysia.

"This is the first time in my life that I have seen this type of fish. I brought it home to my wife and informed her of the rare catch," he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Sapar said he and a friend went out in a fishing boat and traveled two hours from Miri River to the sea.
They started fishing around 5am but after around an hour at the location many miles from Miri, he landed his surprising catch.

Two Planes Collide In Mid-Air And Everyone Survives!

This accident had about as good an ending as you could get. As a guy that's jumped out of perfectly good airplanes myself, I can imagine the adrenaline running through the bodies of jumpers when this happened!

Two planes, each carrying skydivers, collided in Wisconsin 12,000 feet up, sending the skydivers in the air rushing to jump and avoid injury.

One plane fell to the ground, while the pilot of the second aircraft managed to land it, even though it was damaged during the collision. He is the only one who suffered an injury and had escaped by pulling the emergency cord on his chute.

Denver Nuggets Mascot Passes Out

What otherwise would have been a very energetic "Rocky the Mountain Lion" being lowered onto the court at the Denver Nuggets game on Friday turned out to be quite the opposite.

He passed out while being lowered and instead of wild flailing arms and a burst of excitement, fans saw a lifeless lion hanging from his harness.

The good news is Rocky was able to walk of the court on his owner shortly thereafter. Kind of a freaky scene nonetheless!

Woman To Hand Out Fat Letters To Kids On Halloween

I will start by saying I agree that we have a huge problem (literally) in the United States with obesity. If for some reason you didn't realize this, take a look around.

This may not be the best approach to fixing the problem, but it's an approach to say the least. A North Dakota woman is handing out letters to children she believes are obese when they come knocking for candy on Halloween. Yep, no candy, just a piece of paper outlining the obesity problem in the neighborhood.

The letter, in part, reads:

"You [sic] child is, in my opinion, moderately obese and should not be consuming sugar and treats to the extent of some children this Halloween season.
My hope is that you will step up as a parent and ration candy this Halloween and not allow your child to continue these unhealthy eating habits."

Any new material including music/interviews/photos from someone like Kurt Cobain is always welcome!

Ridiculous School Suspensions Over Obviously Fake Guns

You've probably heard me talk multiple times this year about suspensions at elementary/middle/high schools for students that have brought, drawn, or ate fake guns at school. "Ate fake guns you say?" One of the suspensions included a pastry that a student nibbled into the shape of a gun...yeah.

Things have gotten entirely out of hand.

Oh yeah, just last week, that autistic student suspended for drawing a cartoon bomb on a piece of notebook paper. He wanted to show his drawing to fellow classmates, well, he was suspended for it.

Dude Spends Nearly 100G's To Look Like Justin Bieber

Why? Oh dear God WHY.

And sorry to say buddy, but in my opinion all that money you spent only made you weird looking. To each his own I guess!

A 33-year-old man named Toby Sheldon told the British tabloid Closer that he has spent nearly $100,000 over the course of five years on plastic surgery aimed at making him look like Justin Bieber.

Sheldon, described as an L.A.-based "songwriter" with an admitted fear of aging, says he's had work done to make his smile and eyes more closely resembled the pop star. He started out with Botox injections and then switched to Aquamid, which lasts longer. He also has had hair transplants.
"It's Justin's smile that gives him his youthful look," Sheldon said, revealing that he has his "upper lip lifted" and "bottom lip plumped out."

His last surgery, a "smile surgery" performed in July, cost him $15,000 alone.

It's a milkshake made of beer, bacon, and of course, ice cream.

Think you can stomach that? You will have to be 21 of course, because real Rahr and Sons beer is in the mix.

The Average Number Of Times A Day We Check Our Cell Phones

Data collected from an app says we check our phones an average of 110 times per day.

WOW.

The Android app Locket, which pays users in return for displaying advertisements on their lock screens, found that people check every six or seven seconds during the busiest times of the day and some users unlocking their devices up to 900 times EVERY DAY.

75 percent of people unlock their phones most between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m – which are the peak hours. That figure drops to 24 percent between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m.

Adrian Peterson's 2-Year Old Son Critcally Beaten By 27-Year Old

This is just sick. I say way let AP have five minutes alone with this D-bag.

When reports emerged that Vikings running back Adrian Peterson missed practice and traveled to South Dakota due to a "medical issue involving [a] young family member that likely will be a police matter," several tipsters linked the news to reports from Sioux Falls of a man named Robert Joseph Patterson charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery of an infant, who is in critical condition.

TMZ reports that the link indeed exists, and that Peterson' two-year-old son is in critical condition after being severely beaten, allegedly by Patterson.

Per the report, Peterson's son suffered severe head injuries.
